The versatile slat-back chair was made in all areas of the United States and especially in remote areas and on the frontier. This example was found in Texas and is presumed to have been made there in the nineteenth century. A rawhide seat takes the place of a rush or flag bottom, the materials traditionally used by makers of slat-back chairs.
