Paul McCobb has been called the "creator of the contemporary look for young moderns." After World War II, he realized that the furniture industry was paying little attention to the needs of young couples furnishing small apartments. For this market, he developed a line of reasonably priced modular furniture, the Planner Group, which was introduced in 1947. He later brought out Directional, a higher-priced line sold only through showrooms by decorators and designers.
