Armchair and side chair

Eugene Schoen (American, 1880–1957) · New York · 1931

This chair is from a dining room suite that was part of a commission designed by Schoen for an apartment in Manhattan. Inspired by eighteenth-century ladder-back chairs, this chair is an example of how modern designers made subtle use of historical prototypes by simplifying and abstracting past forms.
