Compared to the ornate furniture of the generation before, the new fashions in the Federal period resulted in decoration that was more restrained. On this chair, reeding provides decoration for the back banisters, stiles, and legs as well as for the crest rail and the lower back rail. The tapered leg and front feet provide an elegant finish.
