Technology in the last half of the nineteenth century moved at a very fast pace. Patents for products were being issued in record numbers. German immigrant George Hunzinger had many such patents for his innovative chairs, which are part of the mechanistic style that followed the Civil War. Characteristic of his inventive designs, the woven fabric-covered metal seat of this chair provides springy comfort.
