Gift of Jens Risom
Danish designer Jens Risom was an important early collaborator with the German-born furniture manufacturer Hans Knoll. This chair was the first design resulting from their partnership to go into production. During World War II, Risom focused on designing furniture out of noncritical materials that could be sold in a wartime market. The leather lacing on the seat was a more expensive feature than the cotton army-surplus webbing that was typically used on these chairs.
