This upholstered armchair with its applied composition and gilt ornamentation was considered the most fashionable of drawing room furnishings. Four craftsmen—a chairmaker, a composition maker, a gilder, and an upholsterer—worked together to create this chair. The chair retains a remarkable amount of its original water-gilding and upholstery foundation.
